Changes in Tennis Game Characteristics for the Association of Tennis Professionals Players from 2006 to 2015

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to determine the changes in tennis game characteristics for the Association of Tennis Professionals players from 2006 – 2015. The data of the top 70 players yearly were used according to their rankings in the men's lists published by the ATP during ten years from 2006 to 2015. Descriptive design was used to analyze characteristics of Tennis game which included percentage of (first serve, points won on first and second serve, points won on return first and second serve, ACES, break points converted and saved, games won on return and on service) for grass, clay and hard courts. Statistical analysis was done with SPSS software package by using descriptive statistics and ANOVA test to find statistical differences. It is concluded that, the characteristics of Tennis game illustrated a significant differences between the three types of court surfaces over ten years. In addition, it was found that all variables had showed raise in its results through the last decade except percentage of (points won on return first serve, points won on return second serve, games won on return and break points converted) had illustrated a decline.
